How to Make it in America Week 3

On this episode Ben and Cam actually decide to use their superpowers for the good rather than the evil of the hustle. Ben used the fact that Cam doesn't wake up and doesn't show up on time so he gave him a fake time to show up for the pattern making meeting. Ben shows off the fact that he is a valuable part in the whole plan of things on the fact that he is able the talk about the denim and he has expressed that he is able to speak on the product that he is trying to produce. Ben is trying to tell his point of view about what he is trying to do for the Crisp denim line and everyone that he has spoken with that knows him tell him that he has the drive to do the things that he is talking about, but the follow through is something that hurts him at the biggest hurting point for himself. In this episode you can notice that the guys are now starting to get their hustle on and are willing to take risk on the Crisp denim line. The guys have an idea to ask his father for money to help get the prototype made for the jeans. They are told that they need to have $1500 to get it made and put at the top of the list. Cam being the hustler he is, he decides to take the old skateboard decks and try to sell them at the skate park, when so guys told him that no one buys those boards anymore and that he should go to the prep side of town and try to sell the decks top kids down there. Ben and Cam both decides to take risk on getting the money for the jeans that Ben willing offered his rent money, but Cam has already made enough money to cover the start of the beginning. While sitting at the table Ben tells Cam that he could not borrow the money from his dad and that is when they came to the realization that they need to start on the business to get any type of ball rolling.

More in America

On the journey of trying to start up there denim line the guys decided to try and find a manufacture to produce their raw edge denim from Japan. They go to a few stores trying to get the information for the manufacture and they come across the store that the denim was supposed to go to. The man at the store sends them on a wild goose chase that has they in Brooklyn at a butcher shop. After, the random chase they go to their teacher and asked him for a little bit of help.“Brands don’t just arrive out of nowhere. They are the product of a company vision” They got the right information from the teacher and they started to put the networking that they are awesome at and they started to go in the right direction. They once again got invited to another party and they decided to go to the party and they leader in American fashion is John Varvatos. They party is for John and they got introduced to him and invited to come and drink with him. The best thing that they did was networked with him and they sat at the table with John most of the night and ready to go they decided to stand up and give a toast to John and the reply that John gave back was the “What can I help you with, to get a toast like this” they ask for just a little of his time. They went to John’s studio the next day and they talked to the director of denim.“It is not just about the logo; it’s about the first six months. A lot of corporate identity projects fail because they are not set up properly” The worst thing that they did this time was not having a plan, sample, or goal on how they want to have their denim line to go when they went into the meeting at John’s studio. They did not receive the best information from the meeting so they left and decided to continue with their plan and more of anything they started to actually start on a plan.“A full understanding of the brand and its direction is needed to determine how far the identity should change. The designer is often fully involved in this process”
If they start on the business plan right now that it is the start of the plans to start on the plan the denim line. if they start on the plan right now that the moment it will start them on the move for the future

How to Make it in America

How to make it in America is more than just a hustle and flow kind of deal, it is more like we have to survive by doing what is right and/or what’s wrong. In this first show they did a few things right but they also did a few things wrong. The best thing that they did right in the whole episode is the fact that they decided to help out their friend with the art show, and the fact that they actually showed up to the show also. Another thing that helped them out was the networking with the old friend that they use to know back in the day, and they meet up with him at his job at Barney’s New York. While one friend is the biggest hustler and tries to have his friend help him out with trying to pay back their cousin the go and sell leather jackets on the street and then they take artwork to their old high school friend, whom gives them money to pay off the loan. While they were able to pay the loan back and decided to take another loan out from the cousin to start a hustle on making denim that they got from the dealer that had the leather jackets. While they also made many other connections at the art show the hustler ran into the young ladies father and starts pitching him another one of his business plans and he was told by the dad, “Why don’t you stop coming at me with ideas and put those ideas in to action, and then I will be able to help you” Something that they did wrong is the fact that they took money from one person to pay off a loan, then they turned around and borrowed more money from the same loan shark cousin. These guys are now at the point of the hustle where they are using their heads to get things moving in the right way.
